Our partner project, HA EU WATCH, provides intelligence for the Highways Agency on ITS developments in Europe. The project summarises key information for decision makers and practitioners on activities related to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Europe. The specific areas of key interest to the HA are:

• European Commission activities

Guidance on Investment in ITS
The Department for Transport have produced an ITS Toolkit to help local authorities and their practitioners to understand the benefits and costs of ITS. It includes case studies, advice and guidance in the area of monitoring, evaluation and reporting of ITS related schemes and provides specific advice on:

• the selection of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) tools to meet policy objectives;
• the benefits & costs of ITS deployment;
• what others have done to incorporate ITS within transport plans; and
• lessons learnt from their experience.

Highways Agency Technology Manual (HA only)
HA members of staff have access to the Technology Manual through an internal intranet portal. This cannot currently be accessed from outside the HA.

The Technology Manual is a directory of ITS technologies with short descriptions, links to advice notes and references to design manuals.
