What is ITS Radar?
Launched in August 2005, ITS Radar provides 'ITS
Intelligence' for the Highways Agency (HA) and
is part of the "Traffic and Travel Systems
Group" portfolio of projects for the "Safety,
Standards and Research" Directorate.
ITS Radar merged with the partner project, EU Watch, in May 2008 to form the ITS Radar International Project. The services of ITS Radar and EU Watch will be combined in the coming months.
ITS Radar summarises key information for decision makers and
practitioners alike regarding innovative pilot projects
worldwide and emerging ITS technologies. ITS innovations
will be scored according to pre-defined criteria including
relevance to the HA. The project will consider technologies
deployed in other arenas and look at their applicability
in the world of transport.
How does this help the HA?
We intend to clearly demonstrate the linkage between
promising pilots, ideas and concepts, and deployed
ITS tools. This will enable earlier consideration
of new technologies by the HA, and also enable us
to document where consideration has been given to
new ideas, but maybe held in abeyance due to the
associated 'risks'.
